A Purposeful Life

Know your purpose

The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose.”

– Myles Munroe

If you believe that each and everyone of us has a purpose to fulfill in life, then you believe in God. Go ahead, this post is for you.

Can we talk about life without the mention of Purpose? Absolutely not. What is life without a purpose! What is purpose without life!.

This brings us to the question; What exactly do we mean by the word Purpose?

Purpose according to Oxford dictionary means “The intention, aim, or function of something; the thing that something is supposed to achieve.”

Now that we have the knowledge of what purpose really means. The next question is “how does this define our life? How does it apply to us? Why is fulfilling our purpose in life so significant?”

In order to give an elaborate explanation, I made up the following scenarios that I believe if we carefully read will help us understand how significant purpose is in our life.

You ever walked into a room for an intended reason and suddenly realized you had no idea why you were there? Then you walked out just like that without accomplishing anything. What a waste of time right? Well that’s how it is when we come into this world without discovering and fulfilling our purposes.

Getting the concept yet?

Here’s another scenario to ponder over.

When you buy an item, do you buy the item before knowing its usefulness? Or you know the usefulness first and then purchase the item? I believe the latter is our answer.

Each time we purchase an item we already have a prior knowledge as to the capability and the function of such an item before buying it

So imagine after purchasing such an item and it fails to diligently fulfil the purpose of buying it. Bummer right? “What a complete waste of time and money” You’d say.

So what do you do? Probably throw it away (if you are like me). That’s what I’d do. I mean, after all there is no longer a use for it so why keep a trash around?

This is similar to how God deals with us as human beings. In this case, we’re the items.

Now imagine not fulfilling His intended purpose. Imagine how disappointed He will be in us (Just like the disappointment that comes with the item that fails to deliver its purpose). God gets disappointed too. So if you do care about God and His feelings toward you I suggest the next thing to do on your list should be discovering and fulfilling your purpose. And just like the trashy item, we can easily be displaced too.

God had a purpose for us even before He made us.

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

Live for something, have a purpose

Our purpose in life is paramount over all other things. And each and everyone of us have been ordained with specific purposes by God.

You should however know fully well that God cannot assign you a purpose that is beyond your capability.

God never requires anything of His creations that He didn’t already build into them.” – Myles Munroe

For every purpose He assigns you, He embeds in you the power to fully deliver and fulfill it. Neither has He written a destructive purpose for you.

Remember that His thoughts towards you are of good and not of evil.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

This post is not a sermon. It is an enlightenment about what our existence is really all about. It’s bringing our awareness to the fact that without knowing and fulfilling our assignment on Earth, we might as well not have ever existed in the first place. Because there would be no difference.

So, have you found your purpose yet? Are you harnessing it rightly? If yes, then I rejoice with you because that is practically the most beautiful thing that can ever happen to you.

And if your answer is No, I still rejoice with you because there’s a chance for you to do so. Because now you have the knowledge, it only depends on how you use it.

The beautiful thing is it’s never too late to discover your purpose;

So go ahead, make researches. Listen to audios. Read books. There are numerous of them out there that can guide and lead you to discovering and fulfilling your purpose.
